On this page, I have uploaded some excursion reflections that I have done throughout the year as well as reflect of the lab activities, a fun and interesting part of school life that should never be removed.
Excursions
Here are the reflections on my trip to Taman Safari, a well-known tourist attraction of Indonesia which contains various animals from across the globe. However, something is wrong in this Safari, very wrong in fact...
Here are my reflections on the trip to the legendary Tangkuban Perahu, which has erupted numerous times, devouring anything that crosses it's molten path.
Lab Activities
Since Secondary 1, LSS lab lessons have been held once a week. Then, I merely passed them off as fun lessons and never really took them seriously. This eventually lead to my failure to obtain exemption as I missed out on the important messages brought out by these lessons. However, in Secondary 2, I finally realised my own mistake and started paying attention in lab lessons. Well, I actually attempted to for the whole of Term 1, but my mind usually drifted off somewhere else because I was lacking in content knowledge and as I have mentioned in the other sections, I did not really have an interest in Chemistry. However, after I did overcome that problem, I realised that memorising theories after theories was not enough; we had to know how to use these theories if we wanted to master them. Classroom lessons did not have the time and equipment for such practicals, as such we were provided with lab lessons to test our application of these theories. These lessons soon became more enjoyable as I revised the theories at home, more importantly essential as we got closer to the examinations. I can't deny that lab lessons provide a much more relaxed atmosphere for us students, which in turn allows us to slacken. However, I think that we should embrace this relaxed atmosphere as a time away from the usual boring classroom lessons and instead of wasting it, enjoy trying out the practicals. That way, I can say that we will at least learn something, no matter big or small. Based on experience, I can say that slacking during these lessons is really no fun as compared to trying them out more seriously, therefore, such an atmosphere provided is not necessarily bad. Personally, I feel that some things taught in lab lessons (such as balancing chemical equations) is more effective than just listening to the teacher drone on in class, so I wholeheartedly agree to the idea of lab lessons. Lab activities add flavour into our school life. I am not saying that it is definitely better than the normal classroom Science lessons, but while both focus on different aspects of Science (theory and application), I can say they blend well together. Therefore, such lessons should never be removed in any case as without them, Science is no longer what it is to us students. I hope that such lessons will become even more helpful in preparing us for the Upper Secondary Practical Tests, which I should be having next year.
